The Echo might be a useful gadget for playing music and setting timers but that little smart speaker in the corner of the room can boost your Wi-Fi as well. Thanks to a joint venture between Amazon's Echo and Eero teams, the latest speaker all now includes Wi-Fi extending technology inside.
It basically means that wherever your Echo is you should get better broadband coverage.
This is a neat little update that's totally free to enable and ends the need to dash out and but those little flashing boxes which then need to be plugged into the wall.
There are some caveats though. Firstly you're going to need an Eero router to get things started as the feature only works with these main devices.
You also need to check your Echo as not all of Amazon's smart gadgets include the boosting option.
Here are the Echos that work.
Echo Pop, Echo Dot (4th & 5th Gen), Echo Dot with Clock (4th & 5th Gen) and Echo (4th Gen) all support eero Built-in.
After you have set up your Eero and Echo devices, link your Amazon account in the Eero app to enable Eero Built-in.
"At Eero, we are always looking for opportunities to get more value out of the technology in our homes. By working with the Amazon Echo team, we developed a way to use the existing radios on an Echo device and turn those Echo devices into Eero mesh Wi-Fi extenders—through a software update. With eero Built-in, customers can add up to 1,000 sq. ft. (92 ㎡) of Wi-Fi coverage and support speeds up to 100 Mbps"
If you have the right gear, give it a try. It might just fix your Wi-Fi woes.
