Whether you love or loath them, Brussel sprouts have a well-respected spot on the dinner table at Christmas - but many Brits use an outdated method when cooking the festive vegetable.

Fortunately, Great British Bake Off finalist Crystelle Pereira has shared the "only Brussel sprouts recipe you need" this Christmas, which she claims even sprout haters will enjoy. While they often divide the room, a 2022 study by Farmhouse Inns revealed that sprouts are the nations favourite festive veg, with 20 percent placing it at the top of their list.

Food expert Crystelle took to TikTok to share her balsamic vinegar and honey roasted sprout recipe, which is so simple to make and only requires a handful of kitchen essentials. The baker, who regularly shares recipe hacks online, kicked-off the viral video with footage of the completed sprouts, which were impressively golden and glazed. She then shared her simple recipe, which you can find below.

Ingredients

  • 500g Brussel sprouts
  • Three tbsp olive oil
  • Pinch of salt and pepper
  • Two tsp garlic powder
  • Three tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • Two tbsp honey
  • Pinch of flakey sea salt (optional)

Kitchen equipment

  • Oven
  • Large dish
  • Pan
  • Knife
  • Chopping board
  • Whisk
  • Wooden spoon

Method

  • To start baking the delicious vegetable, preheat the oven to 170C and simply chop up each sprout in half using a chopping board. Then, add the Brussels, olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic powder into a large dish, and toss together to combine the ingredients. This can be done with your washed hands.
  • Next, turn the sprouts over so the flat side is facing down "so the tops get lovely and crispy and the bottoms go nice and charred," explains Crystelle. Roast these in the oven for 20-minutes. While the sprouts are cooking, make the glaze by combining the vinegar and honey in a pan, over a medium heat.
  • Use a whisk to break up the honey, then switch to a wooden spoon. Keep mixing the two ingredients for around seven minutes, until bubbling and thickened. Pour the glaze over the cooked Brussels, use a spoon to fully combine the mixture, and roast for a further 35-minutes. Once ready, sprinkle the sprouts with a "good amount" of flakey sea salt and enjoy!

Impressed followers rushed to the comments to share their thoughts, as one user gushed: "Oh man that looks so delicious. I love Brussel sprouts, but those are next level. I will definitely be making these." Another penned: "Oooh I made these today and they’re the sprouts of my dreams!!!" While a third shared: "Making these right now!"
