Currys is taking on Samsung and Sky TV with a new way to watch telly and those buying one will even get access to premium content without paying a penny. It's all down to the newest £169.99 Roku-powered JVC goggleboxes which the retailer has added to its stock. While they may look like ordinary flat screens, viewers will be able to benefit from satellite-free streaming thanks to that Roku interface.
That means there's instant access to a swathe of content from platforms such as Disney+, Apple TV+ and Prive Video - all viewers would need is a strong Wi-Fi signal.
The newest Roku TV collab is here as the brand partners with JVC to bring a powerful, and affordable, smart TV range. The new devices give users instant access to streaming sites, including Netflix, Disney+ and Prive Video, come with free ITVX Premium, are satellite free and have an HDR10 quality screen.
Gone are the days of worrying about satellite installation costs or a TV box to place near your telly, the 'most-watched' shows are simply available at the click of a button. The biggest eye-catching for intrigued shoppers may just be its free ITVX Premium platform, as the devices come with a 30-day free trial, a small feature which alone would save you £5.99.
And that's not all, these new sets are packed with Roku's fully customisable home screen, set up as a 'go-to' place for viewers to see their existing paid-for streaming platforms all in one place. It's here where you'll be able to filter through hundreds of shows, films, and docuseries that don't come with any added fees to watch.
If saving on satellite, top box sets, or plug-in dongles isn't enough to sway you then the prices of the new devices may do the job as they start from £169.99 for the 24-inch model. If you're on the hunt for a bigger screen to kick back and stream your favourite series on then there's the bigger 4-inch model, at £299.99, or the 43-inch model for £329.99 up for grabs too.
It's not the first collab Roku has revealed that could be a good option for eager TV shoppers. Earlier this year it launched the Roku Sharp devices, again packed with hundreds of channels and streaming platforms. The Sharp models are slightly cheaper starting at £150.
The Roku Sharp displays are packed with Dolby Vision, HDR10 (the same as the new JVC models) and fancy voice control features. Another brand with smart features at the front of its mind is Amazon, thanks to its virtual assistant Alexa. And there's a huge price drop, with up to £300 off the 65-inch Prime device.
