When it comes to heating our homes, people will be looking for new ways to get warm - and one woman has shown how you can use a fan to warm up and save money on your bills.
As the cost of bills surges, homeowners will be searching for alternative ways to heat homes instead of whacking the heating up, and a ceiling fan is probably not at the top of many people's lists as a heat source. Not realising the secret trick to using your fan to keep warm, people have been left stunned that a fan can cool down, but also work to heat rooms and save money.
As the temperatures plummet and snowfall may be imminent, many people are starting to feel the pinch, but one woman has revealed how you can make the most of items you may already have in your home. As she took to TikTok to share her astonishment that her ceiling fan had a hidden function that circulates warm air into the room rather than cooling it down.
It's safe to say others were also amazed at the revelation that can save you money on your heating bills. The woman, who goes by the name @kleentingqueen online shared the revelation online as she asked: "As I'm cleaning my ceiling fans on today, how many of you guys know what that switch is for?"
Videoing her ceiling fan at home, she highlighted which way the hidden switch should be facing depending on the time of year and which season it is. She added: "In the summertime, that switch should be down and in the wintertime, it is up and whenever you turn that switch up....that fan is going clockwise."
Explaining how it works, the TikToker explained that turning the switch the other way creates an "updraft" for the warm air in the room. She said: "Now, keep in mind whenever you turn that switch up, it creates an updraft and it circulates the warm air around the room and you're not constantly turning that thermostat up and down so it will save on your electric bill."
People were praising her video, as one TikTok user commented: "Thank you didn't know that just switch mines up since where getting ready to get cold weather this week Thank You," while another added: "I just learned this earlier this year...thank for this video because I'm saving it to remember."
