That said, I hope lessons are learned from sites like Vitalia, which has struggled with low occupancy despite being open for over a year. Clients who do meet eligibility requirements often wait months to hear back, and the rent levels (around $1,850 for a studio) are still too high for many low-income residents. I’d love to see more emphasis on streamlining the application process, ensuring clear communication from management, and aligning affordability levels with the actual incomes of people experiencing housing insecurity.

According to the research from Columbia University, the effects of Benzene exposure causes cancer with prolong exposure to the fumes. In fact, the study documents that exposure within 100 meters will results in 15-22 benzene cancer diagnoses for every 3 million gallons of gasoline pumped.
The average Santa Clara County gas station pumps about 1 million a year.
CARB and BAAQMB received a complaint filed by the KooserWoods Coalition Neighborhood Association which serves the community neighborhoods of Kooser, Dentwood, and Southbridge. The conclusion of these regulatory commissions determined that it was safe and the facility would install and maintain Air Filters to mitigate but not eliminate all the threat to the public health and safety.
The Santa Clara Housing Authority (County) will own and maintain the facility.
Are you willing to bet your life on the quality of the County’s attention to the public housing it owns?

The ACLU will be busy filing lawsuits regarding the untold outcomes this very risky and expensive (each of the 191 units cost you the taxpayer $186,885 ea) and massive 7 story building on Dellwood Dr will produce.
This facility is only 30 feet from our single story family residents. It will tower over the existing neighbors and the shadow cast will block the solar on our roofs for most the neighborhood. All of this is known to the public officials involved in this decision.

Yes, KWCNA, has informed all the State, County, Local official who are in charge of our public health and safety of our concerns and the liability awaiting the future regarding this toxic hot spot.

Rent here at your own risk.

The irony of putting the vulnerable in the toxic vicinity of a gas station nozzle is beyond cruel its criminal.

Its been an eyesore since pandemic caused it to close. I’m glad its 100% affordable.
