Rice - it's a staple in the kitchen. But do you know how to cook it to perfection every time? Thankfully, Jamie Oliver is here to help.
From curries to paellas, stir-fry to risottos, rice is one of the most versatile ingredients out there. Found in most kitchen cupboards around the UK, some 80 percent of the British population buy rice, with the average person consuming approximately 5.6 kg per year.
Despite that, it's notoriously difficult to get right. Whether it's the quantity or quality - think gloopy, stuck-together grains - the majority of people really struggle to survive up the perfect rice dish.
Thankfully, celebrity chef Jamie is on hand with a fool-proof method to ensure fluffy rice every time. And you can forget fancy gadgets, you'll be able to copy his recipe with basic kitchen utensils.
So, how does it work? The first thing you need to do is put a large pan of salted water on the heat and as it starts to boil, rinse your rice (around 350g) in a colander until the water runs clear. This is to help get rid of some of the starch, which will prevent the grains sticking together and getting gloopy.
Add the rice to the water and allow to boil for five minutes. Then, drain the rice into a colander and immediately cover with tin foil. Put 2.5cm of water back into the pan, bring to the boil and then drop down to a simmer. Place the rice-filled colander on top, and allow it to steam for eight to ten minutes. And that's it!
Of course, some people opt for an even more convenient method that doesn't involve a single pan - and that's the microwaveable packets of rice. And just recently, a mum revealed she had discovered a 'life-changing' tip that makes the process even easier.
Appearing in a TikTok video as @budgetingmum, the woman said: "I was today years old when I discovered this hack." She then held up a packet of Asda's golden veg micro rice before gently pulling apart two tabs at the bottom, to create a stand. "No more falling over," the mum enthused as she showed off the results.
In the caption, she added: "Anyone else not realise that if you pull these bits open at the bottom of the rice, it stands up and doesn't fall over in the microwave." Her video has since amassed over 400,000 likes and hundreds of comments.
