McLaren star Lando Norris has been taken to hospital after his crash during Sunday's Las Vegas Grand Prix.

The British driver started down in 15th place after a dreadful qualifying session for McLaren, with team-mate Oscar Piastri only 18th. Norris managed to work his way up to 13th as the race entered lap four of the Sin City circuit.

But at Turn 12, Norris lost the back of his car, slamming into the barriers and sliding all the way into the run-off areas. While team boss Zak Brown confirmed that Norris was OK, he was taken to the track's medical centre by the medical car.

After being looked over by the medial team, he was then sent to local hospital for further checks. That news was confirmed by McLaren as the race entered its final stages, with Piastri running in 11th place.

"Following Lando’s incident earlier, he was transferred to the circuit Medical Centre and has now been taken to University Medical Center for further precautionary investigations," the team said in a statement.

Norris was discharged roughly 90 minutes after that statement was released. The incident left Norris' car buried under the barriers, with a safety car quickly being deployed. And former F1 star Jolyon Palmer believes Norris was lucky to escape further harm after the crash.

"It almost looked like there was going to be a fireball as Norris hit the upside wall at Turn 11, very very quick left-hander and that's been the source of problems for drivers," Palmer told Radio Five Live.

After the safety car ended, world champion Max Verstappen was handed a penalty for a first lap move on Charles Leclerc. He served that penalty at his first pit-stop, with Leclerc taking the lead.

He then had a brief battle with Sergio Perez before Verstappen caught up and stormed past the pair of them. In a dramatic final lap, Leclerc pulled off a brilliant late move to take second place from the Mexican and steal second place.

Leclerc's team-mate Carlos Sainz fought his way back from a 10-place grid penalty to come home in sixth. The Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Geroge Russell finished seventh and eighth, with Fernando Alonso and Piastri rounding off the points scorers.
