Mini Egg lovers rejoice, there's a fan-favourite product back on the shelves - but its price might just make your eyes water.
There's just under a month left until Christmas, but for some chocolate fans, it's already time to think ahead to the next big holiday - Easter. After all, Cadbury Mini Eggs aren't exactly the first chocolate you think of when it comes to the festive season, but they are synonymous with the egg-themed holiday and they've got a lot of people talking this week as a fan-favourite product has returned to shop shelves. But not everyone is happy with the return of the product, as the price tag has left some claiming it's "daylight robbery".
Shoppers at B&M have noticed that the huge 1kg bags of Mini Eggs are back on the shelves just in time for Christmas, and news of the product's return has been making waves on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group on Facebook. One woman posted a picture of the eggs on the shelf and quoted Without Me by Eminem as she wrote: "Guess who's back, back again, 1kg mini eggs are back, tell a friend."
And while many were overjoyed at the revival of the product, others were too gobsmacked by the price tag on the shelf underneath the product. If you want to get your hands on a 1kg bag of Mini Eggs this year you'll have to part with an eyewatering £12 - which is £2 higher than the £10 price tag they carried the last time they were available to buy.
One person wrote: "£12? Bl**dy hell that's expensive," while another agreed, adding: "I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought it. It's ridiculous." A third person later posted: "Wow, that's well expensive. I know it's chocolate, I know I love mini eggs, but I won't pay that."
There were some who branded it "daylight robbery" while others joked the price was "egg-stortion" and said they "won't be paying that". However, some suggested the £12 price tag wasn't as bad as it might seem at first glance, as it works out at £1.20 per 100g, which they claimed was a good deal.
Someone said: "It's a 1kg bag, the equivalent of 13 little bags and they are usually £1.50 each," while someone else argued: "Works out at £1.20 per 100g which is cheaper than most chocolate per 100g these days."
For comparison with the £12 bag of Mini Eggs, both Tesco and Asda sell a 110g bar of Cadbury's Dairy Milk for £1.35, which works out at £1.23 per 100g. This does make the 1kg bag of Mini Eggs slightly cheaper overall. At this time of year, supermarkets are not stocking the smaller bags of Mini Eggs so a direct price comparison was not possible.
