One mum from Leeds has shared how she has saved £1,900 over the last year by using this one money-saving technique.

Anna Simpson, 39 from Leeds, stumbled across the hack whilst scrolling on Facebook one evening last December. An advert for the voucher website, MyVoucherCodes popped up on her social media feed offering her a deal on Domino's Pizza. After investigating, she realised the deal was legitimate and she treated the family to pizza dinner on Christmas Eve last year.

After this, Anna started to delve a little deeper into the voucher game and nearly 12 months later, she is hooked - and she now uses voucher codes for the majority of her spending. She told The Mirror: "Over the last year I've used vouchers for my food shopping, servicing the car, days out, holidays, kids uniforms, kids clothes and presents such as flowers for friends and family for special days."

At first, the mum of two started looking for vouchers which she could spend at shops local to her, but as she got used to the weekly deals and how they worked she has now become quite the savvy saver by expanding the range of shops she buys from. Anna has also become a tad more experimental with the meals she makes as the food she often buys is dependent on the deals her vouchers can get her that week.

She said: "I’ve served some strange meals just because I got a voucher on things, but the kids like trying new things. I’m lucky as my kids and husband eat anything."

At the moment, Anna is benefitting from a current Morrisons voucher deal which gives you a £10 Amazon voucher when you spend £70 at the supermarket. She said: "This is a normal shop for a family of four, so is my favourite one at the moment as I can use the voucher towards the kid's presents this Christmas. There are also voucher codes for Matalan, Boohoo and my favourite shop TK Maxx."

Anna says one of the greatest savings she made using vouchers was getting £100 off a brand new mattress. However, the best saving was getting £150 off a family holiday to Pontins at Camber Sands.

She said: "Pontins at Camber Sands was fantastic, the kids had a great time and knowing we saved £150 made it even better. We also got 10% off National Trust membership which we have used a lot this year too. The kids and the dogs love all the parks and we have saved loads on parking there."

With the rising cost of living over the last year, Anna says she has particularly focused on trying to save money wherever she can adding that the voucher websites have really helped with this.

She explained: "Me and my husband both work so I know we are lucky, but with a higher gas bill it just made sense to try and save money where I can. I didn’t consider voucher code sites before things started to get more expensive, but now it’s become a routine and even if I only save a few quid on one shop, it adds up over a few months."

Anna is now a self-confessed lover and collects her shopping vouchers from a range of different websites. Going forward, Anna says she will definitely continue to use them adding: "I actually worked how much I had saved last month and it was just over £1,900 and that was across three different voucher sites. My husband has joked that I would still use vouchers even if we won the lottery, but to me, it saves money and doesn’t take that much effort, so I will definitely be carrying on!"

There are definitely pros to using vouchers but Anna noted that there are cons which you should be aware of. She particularly noted how the deals sometimes have limited numbers so you need to check often as if not you'll miss out. Anna described herself as being "very organised" so she's able to manage this well.

She said: "I have plenty of bookmarks, and reminders and have even joined voucher forums. It’s become a bit of a hobby for me now."

As well as this, Anna says you have to be wary of driving to stores that are further away from you as the petrol cost could very quickly cost you more than what you are saving. Anna says you usually get the real savings with online vouchers adding "especially when you are offered free delivery".

For those looking to get into the "voucher game", Anna says her top tip would be to read the terms and conditions on every deal as some may not be as good as it seems. She added: "Never buy something just because it’s on sale, I got a little giddy when new deals were listed, but now, I focus on the things we need.

"You should also always, look at delivery charges, if it’s an online-only deal and it costs you more to get it delivered then it may not save you money overall. For bigger retailers, click and collect saves you a lot, especially at Christmas."
