Sainsbury's has brought back its popular Nectar card offer for this Christmas - but there's a catch.

The supermarket chain has brought back its Nectar Double Up promotion which it previously discontinued in 2021. The scheme allowed shoppers to swap their Nectar points for vouchers worth twice as much. Sainsbury's axed the scheme in favour of personalised offers and discounts.

Last year, the supermarket chain trialled a different scheme using Nectar points for some customers. This year, Sainsbury's has brought back a version of the Double Up offer - and renamed it Points Power Up. Like before, it lets shoppers double their Nectar points for an in-store voucher. To get the vouchers, all you need to do is go to the app and convert your points to vouchers between November 15 and November 24.

But not all shoppers can access Points Power Up. According to MoneySavingExpert.com, 100,000s will be able to see it in the Nectar add. According to reports, you need at least 2,000 points to take part and the maximum you can swap, in total, is 10,000 points. One Nectar point is usually worth 0.5p. So 2,000 points would normally be worth £10 when redeemed.

There are currently around 18 million Nectar accounts. Several shoppers shared their success in qualifying for the offer in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group. One person said they had converted their £20 wroth of points to a £40 voucher. Another said they had bagged a £100 offer from it. A third said they would wait to cash in until November 24 so that could use their voucher on Christmas Eve as they are valid for one month from the day they are issued.

However, some shoppers took to social media to vent their frustration. One Nectar Member described the offer as "unfair" and questioned why it was only available for select accounts. They said: "If you use nectar it should be for everyone. I shop in Sainsbury's every single week and I don't have it. Gutted as I've got £40 worth sat there so would have been really helpful to have been able to double it."

Another said: "I didn’t get it and shop there loads! Since January I've only managed to earn £30! It’s rubbish for points." The Mirror has approached Sainsbury's for comment.
