After months of waiting, Samsung has finally begun releasing its new One UI 6 Android 14 operating system. Until now, only those who are part of the firm's beta test program could access this major upgrade but that's all changed. A global rollout is now underway with Samsung confirming that "One UI 6 will be available in the coming days."

If the Korean tech giant follows tradition, a slow release will take place with different devices receiving the upgrade during November.

There's currently no word on when each range of phones will get One UI 6 but it seems we do know which call makers are getting it first. According to the eagle-eyed team at SamMobile, Galaxy S23 and S23 Ultra users are already starting to see One UI 6 arrive in their settings.

That's no surprise considering these are still Samsung's flagship devices. If you have an S23, S23+ or Ultra in your pocket it's worth checking to see if your device is ready to install this free upgrade. To find out, simply head to Settings > Software update - here you'll see any new updates that are available for your device. It's worth noting that One UI 6 could be as big as 2/3GB in size so it might be worth waiting to connect to Wi-Fi before tapping the download button.

Once installed there's a swathe of new features included in this release including a refreshed design and more ways to customise how things look on the display. App icon labels are now limited to a single line for a cleaner and simpler look. "Galaxy" and "Samsung" have been removed from some app names to make them shorter and easier to scan.

There's a new stylish and modern default font along with extra emojis on the Samsung Keyboard plus the firm has changed the Quick Panel to help make it easier to find the things you use the most. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth now have their own dedicated buttons at the top of the screen, while visual features like Dark mode and Eye comfort shield have been moved to the bottom.

The Lock Screen can also be changed automatically to suit the time of day or routines you are performing. For example, when switching to sleep mode an image of a calming forest will appear to set the mood.

There is also a new custom camera widget, which lets users preselect a camera mode and a storage location — like portrait mode and a folder just for headshots.
