A number of Wetherspoon pubs have now permanently closed and more are still at risk.
Most recently the popular pub chain branch "The Butler's Bell" in Stafford closed its doors on October 22. The branch has been listed for sale over this year and the sale for this pub was being managed by the commercial retail estate firm CBRE Group and Savills.
Recently, the Butler's Bell was listed as being "under offer" which means that a buyer had presented an offer that is being considered by the seller. The pub has been purchased by Davenports Brewery meaning the site will remain as a boozer.
The new pub will offer food, live entertainment and Sky Sports TV and the opening date has yet to be confirmed but it is reportedly set to be within the next few weeks.
Katie McPhilimey, consultant marketing director at Davenports, said: "Bucking the trend of the hospitality industry, Davenports Brewery are strategically acquiring venues to add to their ever-expanding portfolio of award-winning venues. The Butler’s Bell is a great new addition to the portfolio, and hopefully not our last in Stafford. Whilst we haven’t got a firm opening date yet, as there is work to be done to install our products and that of our brand partners, we hope it will be within the next few weeks."
Before this, the Wetherspoon pub The Capitol in Forest Hill London shut its doors on October 15 and another Wetherspoon pub in Devon also closed. The General Sir Redvers Buller closed on October 8. Earlier this year, the site was classed as being under offer - however, as of writing it is uncertain what the future of the site is.

The Miller's Well in East Ham was another Wetherspoon pub which was listed for sale this year but has now closed according to the Wetherspoons website. The pub chain confirmed this site closed on October 28.
Wetherspoon announced it was to close 32 of its sites last year but doubled down on the fact that the move was a commercial decision" adding that it was a "misinterpretation" to suggest the move was down to difficult trading conditions.
In its July trading update this year, Wetherspoon said it had already sold 28 sites this year. Of the closed pubs, 15 had a lease expire or the company exercised its "break clause" - this allowed both Wetherspoon and the landlord to end the tenancy early. As of last month, Spoons said that it had 827 pubs across the UK and Ireland.
As of writing, 28 Wetherspoon pubs are listed on CBRE Group and Savills as being "available" - this means these sites are up for sale - or under offer.
