A woman has received a wave of backlash after detailing 117 reasons as to why she doesn't want children - as trolls call her "broken".
Having children is a personal choice for everyone, as some want a big family, others may decide against it and either way it's up to each person individually. But 32-year-old actress and model Ellie Gonsalves made her stance clear and decided to break down every reason for not wanting to have children. Being in a 15-year relationship, she claimed she started the list after repeatedly being asked why she didn't want kids.
"It always seemed a short reason was never good enough or understood, so this is in more detail for those asking," Aussie-based Ellie shared. The long list, which she posted on Instagram included points such as "your responsibility until the day you die", "postpartum hair loss" and "terrible twos".
Despite many applauding her for her honesty being told she's "brave" and that her take on motherhood was "refreshing", many slammed her "self-centred" views telling her how much she'd regret her decision as strangers called her "broken" for her opinion.
Because of the backlash from her original post with her 117 reasons she doesn't want children, she then went back and added an in-depth explanation of her decision. She touches on the fact some of them are exaggerated and satirical, but stresses that many are "serious and factual".
"I think once you decide to bring consciousness into this world, you have the ultimate responsibility for that being until the day that either you or it dies. You cannot and should never walk away from that responsibility."
Being told she's "horrible", Ellie clapped back at the nasty messages on Instagram and said: "Having kids so you're not old and lonely is an INCREDIBLY selfish reason to have them and secondly reproducing is not the ultimate insurance policy against loneliness…Just because you have kids doesn't mean they will like you or even want to be around you when you're old and potentially considered a liability."
Ellie also highlighted that since her original post, she's been made to feel "ashamed" for her opinion and has been made to feel like a "bad person" for her opinion. She claimed she can never see herself "accepting that responsibility" or having a child and further added: "As an old lady I'm going to be enjoying life with a marg in my hand, going on my hot girl walks with my beautiful husband, 400 Pomeranians, and gossiping with all of the old biddys [sic] about THEIR kids."
