If you've just treated yourself to a new Fire TV Stick then you might want to stop reading now. Amazon will finally release two overhauled telly-streaming dongles later this week and they come packed with updates that make the current range look pretty inferior.
Firstly, they both get a more curvaceous new look which improves the appearance of these popular dongles.
Head under the more eco-friendly design and the new Fire TV Stick 4K gets a faster 1.7 GHZ quad-core chip whilst the pricier Fire TV Stick 4K Max features an impressive 2.0 GHz quad-core processor. These chips make the gadgets far more fluid and fast to use especially when launching apps and skipping through TV menus.
The next big change will please anyone with a new Wi-Fi 6 router in their house as these Fire TV Sticks are now fully compatible with this speedy internet technology. The Fire TV Stick 4K Max even gets more impressive Wi-Fi 6E which should stop the irritation of stuttering streams. For those not aware, Wi-Fi 6 is able to cope with much quicker broadband and allows more devices to get rapid downloads at the same time.

Other extras include full 4K support along with Dolby Atmos audio, Dolby Vision, HDR, HLG, and HDR10+. Those buying the more premium Fire TV Stick 4K Max will also find they get access to a feature previously reserved for Amazon's Fire TVs.
The new Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen) is actually the first streaming media player to come with the Fire TV Ambient Experience. This can turn your TV into an in-home art gallery, with no monthly subscription required.
You simply ask Alexa or hold down the “Home” or “Alexa” buttons on the remote when not streaming to replace blank TV screens with beautiful artwork.
Amazon has recently added hundreds of new images to a collection of more than 2,000 and it's a nice way of making the big black display sitting in the corner of the living room look a little less dull.
And that's not all as with the Fire TV Ambient Experience, you can also see glance-able information like your schedule with Calendars and Reminders, leave Sticky Notes for family members, control smart devices like cameras, lights, or a Ring doorbell, play audio from services like Amazon Music, and Spotify.
“Our mission at Fire TV is to reinvent what customers can expect from a smart TV experience. That’s why the Fire TV Ambient Experience has resonated with so many customers—it’s made their TVs smarter, more useful, and added creativity and beauty to their homes,” said Emma Gilmartin, Director of Fire TV and Fire Tablets Europe. “Today, we’re thrilled to bring the Ambient Experience to more customers in the United Kingdom with the new Fire TV Stick 4K Max, the industry’s first streaming stick to include support for Wi-Fi 6E. We’re also excited to deliver Fire TV’s best-ever 4K experience for under £60 with the new Fire TV Stick 4K.”
